Vista - Even The Fanboys Are Fed Up

In an article called ‘Passing the Torch’, Jim Louderback makes his pent up complaints about the abomination known as Vista available.

The rant starts with the pains involved with Vista networking, something that was originally touted as being easier and more helpful than anything we had been familiar with - oh, and it was to be more secure as well.

Apparently the killer rig that was assembled by, and for, him, on the pages of PC Magazine was just not enough to overcome the inertia of Vista processes. Mr. Louderback complains that many times his machine simply disconnects from the network (remember, this machine was built from hardware all on the blessed and approved hardware list - the only one who did not weigh in on the choices for hardware was the Pope)

the article continues

I could go on and on about the lack of drivers, the bizarre wake-up rituals, the strange and nonreproducible system quirks, and more. But I won’t bore you with the details. The upshot is that even after nine months, Vista just ain’t cutting it. I definitely gave Microsoft too much of a free pass on this operating system: I expected it to get the kinks worked out more quickly. Boy, was I fooled! If Microsoft can’t get Vista working, I might just do the unthinkable: I might move to Linux.

This is someone who works on computers, and reports on them daily. He certainly has an array of knowledge, both personal and professional, available from his colleagues, available at all times. Plus - do you not think that someone who is the editor of PC Magazine has the watchful eye of Microsoft on them? Do you not think that some ‘technicians’ have conversed with him during his nine month journey?

If the darlings of the ‘pen is mightier than the sword’ set cannot get this pig to stand up and sing, it’s time to dismiss the pig as being too annoying.
