In a different and unexplained strategy, Microsoft has made the highly anticipated Windows Home Server product available outside the United States before the release date of August 27.
The actual release date inside the United States has been reported as August 27 for a couple of weeks, however in another article on ZDNet, the date for domestic availability has slipped to September or October.
Perhaps the release outside of the U.S. has something to do with the tendency of the ‘local’ reviewers ripping to shreds the latest efforts from Redmond. Articles originating in this country have not been very kind to Vista, and perhaps Microsoft wishes to get some less stringent reviews from overseas out before being besieged by the more well-known reporters.
Whatever the case, the sales are taking place, some since last Friday, at prices equivalent to about $150. This is good news for those waiting to buy a copy for the home-brew servers in the hall closet.
